About Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week can be said as a clothing trade show in which approximately 70 fashion shows and 90 designers’ work are presented in front of an international audience with the help of static presentations, catwalk shows, and designer showrooms. 

It is organized by a non-profit organization named The National Chamber for Italian Fashion with an aim of promoting Italian fashion development. This event seeks the attention of designers from all over the world.  

There are various designers who rely on this event for starting new designs and ending their previous designs. Whereas the editors of fashion magazines analyze the season’s ambiance and recognize the trends which can be written.    

When & Where Does Fashion Week Take Place?

The Milan Fashion Week takes place in the months of January, February, June, and September in which every street turns into the catwalk runways. In these months, designers present their unique collections in front of fashion influencers, media, and retail buyers.    

There are some fashion shows organized in outdoor and historic places. On the other hand, it is also conducted at Arco Della Pace, Piazza Duomo, and Castello Sforzesco so that the public can also see it. 

A Brief History 

Before coming to Milan, the fashion week was started in 1951 in Florence by Giovanni Battista Giorgini. It was the first time when the catwalk runways were open to fashion journalists and photographers from all across the globe. At that time, it was introduced to showcase or exhibit talent in the Italian fashion industry.  

Nowadays, Milan Fashion Week is conducted by the Camera Nazionale Della Moda Italiana. The main motive behind organizing this fashion week is to promote fashion designers in Italy on both national and international levels.  

This event is one of the Big Four Fashion Weeks which began in 1958 in Milan with both men and women fashion week. The other three fashion weeks were held in New York, Paris & London. 

Is It Open to the Public?

It is unfortunate that this event is organized only for elite clients, VIPs, and industry people. Apart from them, the seats are reserved only for authorized photographers, pop stars, influencers, journalists, fashion bloggers, and top models.
